Lara Smith says it best in her opening paragraph below, "Trains are loved by children and adults all over the world." This is a fun and exciting pastime that brings families together. What an awesome family tradition to past down through the generations.I always remember a train under the Christmas tree;maybe this year it will have to be one I make with the kids.

Trains are loved by children and adults all over the world. They never seem to go out of style. The train has made its way off the tracks and into our jewelry, our toys, and our lives. There are cartoon characters that are trains and there are books about living and talking trains. It may be the distinctive sounds that the train makes or the classic beauty of the older style, coal burning trains, but something about them has made them classics to have as toys and as decorations around the house. Some train sets even sell for thousands of dollars.
Wooden trains bring together the classic beauty of trains and combine it with the eloquence of wood. These trains tend to be bigger than the track models that various companies have made over the years. These trains are no less valuable or beautiful though. They can be both played with or kept as heirloom decorations. No matter what the intended use of the wooden train set is, the result will be a treasured work of art.
The most common style for a wooden train set it is the old style coal burning trains. The complexity of the trains depends greatly upon the function of the train. If the train is meant to be a piece of decoration, spending more time on the small details like the areas at the chimney of the train and the edging around the train is a good idea. If the train is destined to be a toy, these details can be over looked.
The standard idea for the train is to take a cylinder block, and attach a square block to the end of the cylinder. This creates the engine and the engineer's location. A chimney is typically designated as a second cylinder, attached to the first cylinder and going strait up. This is typically done by drilling a hole for the second cylinder in the first cylinder and then inserting and gluing the second cylinder in place. Again, the complexity of the details can be individualized. This is just a brief description. The whole thing can then be set on a second square block and wheels can be added to the train. A hook or eye can be attached to the back of the engine to allow one to attach the next car.
Most train cars are simple squares. The squares can be hollowed out or can be very shallow to allow for railings or such and the transport of different items. Each of these cars should have a hook on one side and an eye on the other to allow them to be attached to the other cars. Be sure to get the hooks and eyes lined up properly other wise the cars will not fit properly.
Painting of the train set can be done in a variety of manners. One can either paint each individual piece separately before assembling or one can paint the train once it is assembled. Another idea for the wooden train is to simply varnish the train to maintain the woods integrity while keeping it looking like wood. No matter how one decides to paint or decorate the train, it will be one of those beautiful works of wood crafting that will be treasured for years to come.
Lara Smith works for Woodworks, LTD, a wholesale craft parts supplier near Fort Worth, TX, offering wood products such as wooden toy wheels, toy parts, buttons and plugs. To learn more about wooden train, check out http://www.craftparts.com

For some people, dollhouse collecting has turned into a captivating hobby, mainly because of the intricate designs, shapes and level of detailing. However, when it comes to drawing a line between dollhouse series for children and a dollhouse that addresses adult collectors, the difference is huge. Dollhouse miniatures for adults are specifically designed for depicting the exact architectural details and constructional expertise of a real house, but at a smaller scale.
In addition, dollhouse collections include items that depict a variety of trends, contemporary styles and classic architecture, so assembling a dollhouse that depicts the Victorian period, for example, can turn into an exciting adventure.
Assembling a valuable dollhouse is a process that requires attention, patience and skills. Setting a dollhouse in a specific period is possible only if you manage to assemble it correctly. Therefore, we thought to provide dollhouse collectors with a short and handy guide on how to assemble a dollhouse:
Step 1 Unwrapping the box
This seems like an easy task: what could be mentioned about opening the box? Well, when it comes to dollhouse items, fragility and accurate labeling are the first things you need to do when unwrapping the box.
Just write the name of each piece before you take it out of its sheet and also the sheet number. This way, when you will get to the assembling part, you’ll have every piece nicely organized for putting the dollhouse together.
You might find pieces that need light sanding before assembling, or others that were not completely die cut during the manufacturing process. Therefore, a hobby knife might come handy.
Step 2 Choosing the right glue
Assembling a dollhouse requires collectors to learn a bit more about glue, because different types of glue are used during the different stages of assembling the dollhouse.
Wood glue is ideal for upper grade dollhouse kits, but also for die cut dollhouses. Remember to remove the excess glue between steps with a paintbrush.
Glue guns can be used to hold pieces that are drying. However, hot glue doesn’t work well with a dollhouse, considering the fact that is not meant for permanent applications. At one time or another, heat and cold will cause it to separate and spoil your entire work.
Before actually using the glue, it is recommended to try a dry run – you’ll have an overall view on the dollhouse and get a better understanding on the entire dollhouse concept.
Step 3 – Taking care of the details
While assembling different parts of the dollhouse, taking care of details such as the electric lights can easily turn into an independent project. Doll houses are usually lighted using simple systems based on cooper foil. Just like a roll of scotch tape, the wiring can be scrolled everywhere you want power. Electric light for dollhouse miniatures is really not expensive; it will cost you less than $25. The basic idea is that this is something easier to install during the assembling process rather than after the doll house is up.
Some collectors chose to apply a thin layer of semi gloss paint on the wood parts of the doll house.
From this point further, the sky is the limit; anyone can personalize a dollhouse according to their personal taste or budget. Miniature dollhouse furniture and other accessories are available in local stores or over the Internet. All you have to do is look for that special doll house accessory for creating a unique piece of art.
Whether you are collecting doll houses for fun, for relaxation or for enjoying special moments with your kids, one thing is sure: doll houses are a unique way to express a person’s creativity and skill. The reward is unparallel, and the finished dollhouse is something that the entire family can enjoy.

Storing Ribbion- Craft Tip!!!
Use this technique and storing ribbon will be a snap. Find a see-through tall plastic container with a lid. Stack all of your ribbon inside the container. Cut small slits in all sides of the container and pull the ribbon through each one. This will keep all your ribbons organized and untangled for easy access.

Craft Tip!!! Making pattern use Earth friendly.
Patterns are seen as a one use item. This is not a very green approach to crafting. To make you patterns usable more than once iron then onto iron on interfacing then cut them out. The flimsy paper that is used now has a bit of substance and can be used again!

Jeweled Shamrock Pendant
Check out this great craft article under the St. Patrick’s Day category at http://www.tigerandlilyboutique.com/howtos.html.
March 17th is St. Patrick’s Day and according to tradition if you are not wearing at least a little something green you just might get pinched and why put yourself through that? Let’s face it most of us do not look very good in green attire but, there are ways around this. A pretty green pendant to wear on your lapel for the occasion would be fun and festive especially if you make it yourself. I chose the Shamrock or Four Leaf Clover because, According to Irish tradition it represents blessings and who doesn’t like getting blessed?
This St. Patrick’s Day craft project is geared for adults, it is not easy enough for children to do unless an adult is right there helping the child through each step.
Supplies:
1- 18 X 22 piece of green felt. (any shade of green)
1- Acrylic Craft Jewel (any color)
1- Pin Back- 1 1/4″

11. After the glitter fabric paint has dried (24-hrs) You might want to go back over it with the paint, It’s up to you because, if you do choose to go back over it you will need to let it dry again for another 24-hrs.
12. Simply glue the pin back to the back of the Shamrock or Four Leaf Clover. Glue to center of the Circle part. Let dry for at least 1-hour or more before attempting to wear.

Pretty in Pink Valentine's Day Cards
by Rachel Paxton
Description: Easy pretty pink Valentine's you can make in less than an hour for Valentine's Day.
Looking for some easy cards to make for Valentine's Day? These pretty pink Valentine's Day cards will take you less than an hour to make and your friends and family will love them.
I have designed three different Valentine's Day cards for you to choose from. They are all based on the same theme so you can prepare and put them together at the same time. It is more cost effective to make them this way...I put together six cards from two 12x12 pieces of scrapbook paper.
Materials:
3 white pre-made greeting cards
1 piece of white 12x12 scrapbook paper
1 piece of pink 12x12 scrapbook paper
Small heart-shaped rubber stamp
Blackink pad
Pink colored pencil
Narrow white ribbon
Hole punch
Scissors
Paper cutter
Glue Stick
Before you get started on the actual cards, you can create the hearts that will decorate each of the three cards.
Use the paper cutter to cut six 2x2" pieces of white scrapbook paper. Using the heart rubber stampand the black ink pad, stamp a heart in the center of each piece of white scrapbook paper.
After the ink dries for a few minutes, color in the hearts with the pink colored pencil. Now you are ready to start your first card.
Card #1:
The first card will open horizontally. Using the paper cutter, cut a rectangle from the pink piece of scrapbook paper. The rectangle should take up about three-fourths of the card.
Using the hole punch, punch two holes right next to each other near the top center of the pink piece of paper. Cut a piece of white ribbon approximately 6 inches long. Thread the ribbon through the holes in the pink paper.
Glue the pink paper in the center of the white greeting card. Carefully tie the white ribbon into a bow, cutting the ends of the ribbon to your desired length.
Next space out three white squares with the hearts on them in the center of the pink paper. Glue in place.
Card #2:
The second card will open vertically. It is very similar to the first card, in that you will cut a pink piece of scrapbook paper into the shape of a rectangle that takes up about three-fourths of the card. Attach the white ribbon at the top center of the pink paper, as for the first card.
Glue the piece of pink paper in the center of a white greeting card. On this card, you will center two hearts in the center of the pink paper, one above the other.
Card #3:
The third card will also open vertically. For this one I cut about an inch off the bottom of the white greeting card so it is closer to the shape of a square.
Cut a piece of pink scrapbook paper into the shape of a square that takes up about two-thirds of the card.
Attach the white ribbon at the top center of the pink paper as with the other cards.
Glue the piece of pink paper in the center of the greeting card. Glue one heart onto the center of the card.
These cards are very easy to make. If you don't want to mess with rubber stamps, you could use heart-shaped stickers in their place. Your friends and family won't believe how little time you spent making them!
